Therapeutic Philosophy

My work is strength-based and client-centered. I understand that every client is unique and will require different approaches to treatment. I’m committed to giving each client the individual attention needed to succeed. I utilize a variety of evidence based therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy techniques, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques, mindfulness skills, play and art therapy techniques and a variety of other techniques to aid in my client’s growth and recovery. Some of my beliefs about therapy that guide the treatment I provide are as follows:
- I believe therapy is a collaborative process. I work with you to address your needs and make sure you are an active participant in your treatment.
-In order to get the most out of therapy it requires that you use the knowledge and skills you obtain in therapy outside of therapy. This includes practicing different tools and assignments we will work on and practice together in session.
- I am strengths based and will work with individuals unique strengths to help you reach your goals. I will encourage you to try new tools, skills and perspectives that could help you in achieving self growth while building on past experiences to help you develop a deeper understanding of current and past relationships, behaviors and feelings.
- I believe that relationships can heal. I seek to develop a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, open communication and collaboration.
- Humor and compassion are a big part of how I approach treatment as I believe these are vital to the healing process.
-I work to provide you with clinical insights to help you improve your quality of life. I understand that you are an individual and I use all my tools to help promote healing and change understanding that some changes are more simple than others which take more time. I understand making changes can be hard and I will do my best to support you while you work through all of your life experiences.
-I understand some of our work together might be uncomfortable and bring up difficult emotions and I’ll do my best to support you as you work towards personal growth and self-fulfillment.
